Recently, I bought a Vetiver fragrance oil for use in soap making from a well known manufacturer in that space. It arrived and I gave it a sniff. It was not even remotely what Vetiver smells like. That's like this fragrance. If you didn't know what Vetiver smelled like you might say, "oh, that's a nice light fragrance." It smells like an inoffensive hair conditioner. But having smelled this, and CYKLAR's Cedar Supreme, I think their design philosophy is just not a particularly good match for my taste. I should hurry to add that the stuff doesn't smell bad. It's just that there is no correlation between the names/notes that they ascribe to their products and the smell of what's in the bottle. Vetiver is not a light confectionery smell, it's grassy and earthy like the smell of a lawn after rain. This product smells synthetic, like what you smell when you go to Sophora and try a couple of mass-market things out.
Here's what CYKLAR says Core Vetiver smells like:
TOP: CITRUS ZEST, TEA TREE OIL, FREESIA
MID: CLARY SAGE, EUCALYPTUS, ROSEMARY
DRY: VETIVER, DRIFTWOOD, CEDAR
There is no citrus in the topnote and definitely no eucalyptus or rosemary in the middle. It's just not there. And as I mentioned, whatever accords may be making up the rest, the scent of actual Vetiver isn't among them.
